When are Hrobky and Provody in Odesa in 2026
In southern Ukraine, the spring day of remembrance at the cemetery is called "hrobky" or "provody". In 2026 the reference dates are:
- Antipascha (Providna Sunday) — 12 April 2026;
- Radonitsa (Provody) — 14 April 2026 (Tuesday).
In Odesa and the region, families traditionally visit graves on Providna Sunday — 12 April. Exact dates may vary by community — check with your local parish.
What "hrobky" means
"Hrobky" is the folk name for the spring memorial day when families come to the graves, tidy them, bring flowers and candles, and remember the departed. The tradition is especially common in the Odesa region and the south of the country.
How to prepare a grave for Provody
- clear leaves, weeds and old flowers;
- wash the monument and the cross;
- top up gravel, level the soil;
- plant or bring fresh flowers;
- check the fence and the bench.
If you can’t make it in time — order grave cleaning 2–3 weeks before the holiday to be sure the site is ready.
